Contributing as a member of a high-performance team is important to Eric Clark, who joined BCWM as a Wealth Advisor this March.
After all, as a varsity baseball player for the University of Central Missouri Mules, he helped take his team all the way to the 1997 Division II College World Series in Montgomery, Ala. His performance in the classroom and on the field that year also earned him a selection to the 1996-97 Academic All-America District team. Eric went on to graduate Cum Laude in 1999 with a BSBA degree in Accounting and an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning.
But that feeling of being on a team whose members push one another to continually strive for excellence—that was what he was seeking when he joined BCWM.
“The commitment to professional development and support for continuous learning is evident at Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management,” says Eric. “It’s a culture of lifting each other up and pushing team members in a positive way.”
Eric, who’s father, a retired police chief, and mother, a retired educational aide, says he’s long known he wanted to be a financial planner. Growing up, he didn’t have much exposure to the worlds of investing and finance, but when his grandfather gave young Eric a few shares in a mutual fund he discovered he loved monitoring those shares, and that one gift of a few shares sparked his interest in learning more.
Even while earning his Accounting degree, Eric pursued an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning, and has intentionally steered his career course toward affiliation with a Registered Investment Advisor practice, like BCWM.
“I’ve always been a numbers guy,” he explains, “but financial planning has always been more interesting to me than pure accounting because it generally involves more meaningful interaction with people as an ancillary benefit. It is both fun and rewarding to watch what I do make a positive impact in the lives of others.”
Prior to joining BCWM, Eric garnered more than a decade of experience with individual income tax compliance, personal financial planning and wealth management, most recently as a Vice President at Sonas Financial Group, Inc., where he provided investment management and financial planning services for that firm’s clients. Eric gained his income tax compliance experience at the global accounting firm, KPMG, and a regional firm, BKD.
He earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in 2003, followed by the Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS®) designation in 2004 from the College for Financial Planning near Denver, Co., which is the nation’s oldest financial planning education institution. Eric is also an active member of the national and local chapters of the Financial Planning Association.
The decision to join BCWM was a carefully considered one, says Eric, not just from a personal perspective, but for the clients he would bring with him. “I had to be confident that this was the right move for them, not just me. The environment had to be one where I knew the clients’ best interests would continue to be the top priority.”
Over the past few years Eric had already been keeping an eye on the launch and growth of Boyer & Corporon. He knew of the firm because several of his relatives went to high school with Rich, and Eric’s own competitive softball team had actually competed against Chief Compliance Officer Brian Hackleman’s team. What he saw was a culture and approach to its work that was the right fit for himself and his clients.
“Boyer & Corporon Wealth Management has found a way to truly integrate holistic financial planning with investment management recommendations, which is easier said than done,” Eric says. “BCWM is not selling a product, it is making recommendations to fit each client’s unique circumstances, then following up and monitoring in a very disciplined way.”
Now, as the newest team member, Eric is thrilled to contribute to BCWM’s high performance through his focus on providing customized and sophisticated planning for the firm’s clients.
But he also finds a little time to squeeze in some recreational softball with friends and family – that is, when he and his two-year-old son aren’t cheering on his wife Molly, a home maker and former elementary school teacher who now coaches their six-year-old daughter’s soccer team. The couple also enjoys volunteering together for various duties at their church. All four Clarks reside in Kansas City, Mo., with their French Bulldog, Tank.
